Show Notes

[00:08:25] Speaker A: Salim Shalash istene Arabi se Christen and voorhanger in Nazareth. Who is it for the Arabisie in wonders van Israel um in atlantevone. Salim, welcome in our show today we mark the 77th birthday of Israel. What does Israel mean to you? [00:08:50] Speaker C: Greeting everybody. It's an honor and privilege to be with you again. Sarah Christian for Israel. All of our friends there. We're praying for you. Israel mean a lot for me just mentioning the word Israel that remind me in my Bible with the prophecies in the Old and New Testament that fulfilled through Israel. Israel carry two important meanings in Hebrew. One, fight with the Lord and won and the second, Amin prince with God. So Israel is the center of our Bible. And from there started the prophecies about the Messiah that Jesus, he's a Jew and he was born in this land. So it's very unique, it's very special. Once again, biblically and more important to understand that this small nation still exists from years and years. Yeah, it's just young 77, but it's more than 2,000 years old. We know all the story of Israel. [00:10:03] Speaker A: Because you are a Christian Arab. Can you tell a little bit about yourself and your background? Because you live in Israel, you're a Christian Arab. How is that? [00:10:13] Speaker C: Okay, It's a little bit complicated for many people who lives in Europe, you know, because I just came recently from a conference in Italy and many were wondering, you know, who you are, you are Arab. That means you are a Palestinian or who you are. You are Israeli. We are an Arab Israeli who carry the Israeli passport live in Israel. When I say Arab, doesn't mean I'm a Muslim that converted to Christianity. We are basically Christians. And you can read that in the Book of Acts, chapter 2. There were Arab worshipping in Jerusalem and it was 600 years before Islam came. So we are basically Christians. I'm a Syrian, basically from Syria, my, you know, grand grandfather and three generations who live in Israel all our life. [00:11:10] Speaker A: Right. Because Israel is now celebrating its 77 years of existence. What does it mean to you personally? [00:11:20] Speaker C: I think the re establishment of the state of Israel is one of the prophecies that's fulfilled in 1948. And many think that I'm speaking in a political situation. No, I'm speaking on biblical concept, understanding your Bible that God promised. And when God promised, he keep his promises. I grow all my life, Sarah, believing in replacement theology. But when God opened my eyes, not a man, not a story, nothing, you know, with the human, it's between me and God. I was searching for the basics of replacement theology. I didn't find any basics because if I believe that God changed his mind, you know, he could change his mind soon and replace the church with something else. If I do believe that he replaced, you know, the church with the Jews or the opposite, the Jews with the church, he could replace the church with something else. We can say no. So understanding that God keep his promises that make our situation stable, we are believing in God that he never changed his mind. And re establishment of the state of Israel, it's fulfilling one of the prophecies. And from 1994, from 1948, the re establishment of the state of Israel until today, we are facing every year a lot of wars and the same results and the end Israel win. So, you know, Einstein said, if you do the same thing, always repeating the same thing and expect different results, you are redundant. So I think it's time for peace and reconciliation. Yeah. [00:13:07] Speaker A: Because a lot of Arabs also, as you just explained, and Palestinians, they have a very different feeling about the day of the establishment of the state of Israel. Do you feel conflicted about this day, given the historical significance it holds, both for the Jewish people as for the Arab people? [00:13:31] Speaker C: I think, Sarah, you know, everyone has his own opinion. But if I want to take, you know, my biblical belief, my biblical concept, what my Bible said about Israel, what happening today is fulfilling one of the important things that many people is waiting for that because that is the beginning for the return of the Messiah. And I tried to discuss with many of these leaders about where do you bring, you know, this theology that God rejected his people? You know, Israel is accepted by God. So who I am to say, no, don't accept it, I can't change, you know, his story, not history, his story. It's all about what God is doing. It's not about, you know, what we are doing. And I share many times, you know, in Holland, in Europe and everywhere about the story of the prodigal son. And the eldest son, Mani is the eldest Son, but today we follow doctrines more than following mercy. We obey. We become slaves for doctrines more than understanding the will of God and being, you know, merciful, you know, look, if you want to talk about occupation, Sarah, let's talk about Egypt. Egypt was a Coptic country that all their life they are Christians and Islamic, you know, controlled by wars. Why people until today are not asking for, you know, free Egypt, but still. [00:15:00] Speaker A: Many Palestinians say that 14th of May, 1948 was the beginning of the Nakba, the disaster that came over them. Is it still viewed like this among the Arab Israelis in Israel? [00:15:15] Speaker C: For me, I can say very clearly it's not the Nakba, it's the state of Israel. I lived here 50 years. I'm honored. I have my own church. I'm not persecuted from the Israeli government or from the Israeli police. I'm not saying that Israel is perfect. There's always things to fix. But as a Christian who live in Israel, we are minority of minority, okay? We are minority of minority. And we are so blessed to live in this country, in this country that some people call it apartheid country. I don't see that at all. It's the opposite because you can see Muslims, you can see Christians, you can see Jews, you can see Jewish. Everyone share his belief, you know, without hurting the others. I'm not forced to change my religious or to follow other religious. I'm free. I have all the freedom. And that you will never find it in any Arab country in the Middle east. Because what you see in the media, Sarah, is not the truth. Okay? If you want to know the truth, the Bible said, come and see. [00:16:24] Speaker A: Yeah. So a final question, Salim, because there is still a lot of war going on in Israel already for one and a half years and actually the past 70, 70 years also. What is your wish and your hope for. For the future? [00:16:40] Speaker C: First of all, I pray for peace. Peace is our aim, is our vision, is our dream. Peace between Arab and Jews, reconciliation and, you know, peace without the Prince of peace. That never happened. And today, as a church, we are blessing both Jews and Arabs. Both of them. You need to come and see. And I think you taste that. You saw Jewish and Muslims and Christians taking their needs from the humanitarian aid center. So I am dreaming about a new generation that empty of hatred. They never carry hatred in their hearts. Not for the Jewish and not the Jewish for Arabs. Stop killing. Stop, you know, violence. We can live together as we have that peace with the United Emirates. We can have peace with other countries. Just like, let your people live. Hamas is torturing their own people every day. We see that in the videos. We see that in many cases they are killing them while they are taking their food from the humanitarian trucks. So today if you want peace, you need to sit down and speak like gentle about negotiation. You know, we have two kinds of hostages in Gaza, we have the Jewish people and we have the Palestinians themselves. Recently we saw a lot of videos against Hamas because you know what Hamas did after the 7th of October, what kind of victory you are talking about, you know, leaving 2 million people above you, you know the tunnels and you hide under the tunnels. What kind of war using your people as a human shield. It's crazy. The dream is to live together in peace, to work, to show the love to each other. And I think that is possible today if we believe that we can do it together. [00:18:31] Speaker A: And we will pray for that. Thank you so much. Salim Shalash from Nazareth. [00:18:36] Speaker C: God bless you all.
